The Administration section of your dreamsite is much more involved than that public part. There are many commercial site management applications that want to rope you into their way of doing things but given the complexity and uniqueness of your visions and company, custom development is the only answer, believe me. CRM - People

CRM stands for Customer Resource Management and the internet has skyrocketed the popularity of this science. You want to capture information from everyone that visits your site and treat them as an individual when they return. You need to deal with duplication in your people database and with lots of integration issues with the login, sales and other parts of the site. Staying in touch, keeping customer information up-to-date and finding ways to increasingly target segments of your customer database are key parts of CRM. The complexity of a people record in a CRM can be quite stunning and figuring out how to shape and leverage this information it a big part of the success of any site. I will explain more about this shortly.

Custom Messaging System

Direct communication with visitors via email becoming less and less practical or reliable. You need a messaging system with login right on your website where people visit and send and possibly receive messages as part of managing their account. Such a system is completely internal to your company and not connected to the email system. This there is no SPAM and messages are guaranteed to be delivered.

Email and FAX

SPAM and pornography have eroded the usefulness regular email for business. You need ways to quickly view all waiting emails and delete suspicious ones by the hundreds quickly. You also need to be able to check your email from any computer anywhere and to send email and FAXes from any computer and the system needs to be integrated with your people, sales, testimonial, downloads, newsletter, etc databases. News Releases/Newsletter

People need to quickly see what is happening at your site since the last time they visited. You need to develop a mind set to publish your activities as new releases on your site. I will describe how to put a news system in place and what mistakes not to make.

Sending out an email newsletter from a PC is no longer practical. Composition, management and send-out must be done right on your website where it can be integrated with the database system there. Management of bounce-backs (often 15-20%) and related maintenance of your people database is a big issue and you need automated on-site tools to handle this.

Testimonials

The value of testimonials is selling goods is well known and you should never allow one to be lost. Your administration system should have provision to attach testimonials to people records, classify and rate them and display representative ones on selected web pages.
