Water of Plasticity - WOPL

Indicates the amount of water required to totally wet the clay's surface, that is, to achieve a consistency at which any low plasticity characteristics can be attributed to the plastic deficiencies of the clay rather than the lack of water. This is a subjective analysis. Generally the higher the number the greater the plasticity and finer in particle size.

A related measure is the plastic limit. It is the gravimetric water content at which 3 mm diameter threads of the clay crumble when rolled out by hand.
