Good ventilation is important to maintain an oxidation atmosphere to remove water and organics and avoid reducing any iron present (it could black core and flux the clay in the next firing). Firing as slowly as possible is good in electric kilns since they never really do have good ventilation anyway.
Step 1 should hold for a longer period for more heavily loading kilns, especially ones containing first-fire ware, perhaps overnight.
Step 4 and 5 are needed if you have bodies containing high percentages of quartz (to avoid dunting cracks at quartz inversion at 573C).
